ICC Special Inspector
What they do:
Special Inspectors are highly specialized and often work for private engineering or testing firms. They are required by the International Building Code (IBC) to oversee critical structural elements like reinforced concrete, structural welding, or masonry. They ensure that the specific materials and methods used match the engineer’s high-stress designs.
Demand:
Very High. With a massive push for resilient infrastructure and large-scale commercial projects, there is a shortage of inspectors with specialized ICC certifications. This path often commands the highest hourly rates in the inspection industry.
