City or Municipal Building Inspector

What they do:
Employed by local governments, these inspectors ensure that new construction and major renovations comply with local building codes and safety regulations. They review blueprints, issue permits, and perform site visits at various stages of construction (foundation, framing, final).

Demand:
Steady/High. Many municipalities are facing a "silver tsunami" of retirements among senior inspectors. There is a strong need for new, certified talent to manage urban development and aging infrastructure safety.
